FULL SCREEN & SCREEN FIT
Full Screen gives Tray Board the largest available puzzle area and provides the most immersive way to play.
Tray Board has two connected play areas: the puzzle board and the tray containing the loose pieces. Their arrangement changes automatically to suit the shape of the screen:
- on portrait screens, the board appears above the tray, which scrolls horizontally;
- on landscape screens, the board appears beside the tray, which scrolls vertically.
Entering Full Screen does not restart or rearrange the puzzle. Correctly placed pieces remain on the board, loose pieces remain in the tray, and the timer and placement progress are retained.
On phones and tablets, try both portrait and landscape to find the most comfortable arrangement for the selected picture. On laptops and desktop computers, Full Screen makes fuller use of the available display without requiring the device to be rotated.
ENTERING FULL SCREEN
Open Game Setup and select Play Full Screen.
Full Screen:
- closes the normal Game Setup drawer;
- removes the normal page header and browser controls where supported;
- expands the game across the available screen;
- retains the current board, tray, timer and puzzle progress; and
- provides a compact three-dot menu for the controls needed during play.
After entering Full Screen, the board and tray remain fully interactive.
BOARD AND TRAY PLACEMENT
Tray Board automatically changes its layout to make practical use of the available screen.
PORTRAIT SCREENS
- The board appears above the tray.
- The tray scrolls horizontally when more pieces are available than can be shown at once.
- Drag a piece upwards from the tray and place it onto its correct board position.
LANDSCAPE SCREENS
- The board and tray appear side by side.
- The tray is positioned to the right of the board and scrolls vertically.
- Drag a piece from the tray towards its correct position on the board.
- Correctly placed pieces remain fixed when the screen orientation changes.
THE THREE-DOT FULLSCREEN MENU
Select the three-dot button at the upper-right of the Full Screen display to open the compact game menu.
The available actions change according to the current state of the puzzle.
The menu may include:
- Exit Full Screen
- New Image
- Save & Pause
- Resume Play
- Reshuffle Tray
- Restart Game
Select the three-dot button again, or choose an action, to close the menu.
The menu sits above the game and does not resize or reset the board or tray.
NEW IMAGE
Select New Image to open the picture gallery while remaining in Full Screen.
Choose another picture to begin a fresh Tray Board puzzle.
Starting another picture:
- clears the current board progress;
- refills the tray with all pieces;
- resets the timer and placement count; and
- replaces the current saved Tray Board game.
The new puzzle remains in Full Screen after the picture has been selected.
SAVE & PAUSE
After the first piece has been correctly placed, Save & Pause becomes available in the three-dot menu.
Select Save & Pause to:
- save the current board position;
- retain the order of the remaining tray pieces;
- stop the timer; and
- pause piece movement.
The board and tray remain visible, but pieces cannot be moved while the game is paused.
Open the three-dot menu and select Resume Play to restart the timer and continue from the saved position.
RESHUFFLE TRAY
Select Reshuffle Tray from the three-dot Full Screen menu to rearrange the remaining loose pieces.
Reshuffling:
- changes only the order of pieces still in the tray;
- does not move any correctly placed board pieces;
- does not reset the timer or progress; and
- does not alter the size or position of the board or tray.
The Full Screen menu provides the reshuffle action instead of the tray-attached reshuffle control used in normal browser play.
When only one loose piece remains, reshuffling has no practical effect.
AFTER COMPLETING THE PUZZLE
When every piece has been correctly placed, the completed image and completion message are displayed.
Open the three-dot menu and select Restart Game to play the same picture and piece count again from a fresh tray.
Select New Image to begin a different puzzle.
The completed puzzle can also be left by selecting Exit Full Screen.
EXITING FULL SCREEN
Open the three-dot menu and select Exit Full Screen.
The game returns to normal browser play with:
- Game Setup closed;
- the board-first view unobstructed;
- the Game Setup button available at the top-right;
- correctly placed pieces retained;
- remaining tray pieces retained; and
- the timer and placement progress unchanged.
The browser’s own Full Screen exit control may also be used where available.
FINDING THE BEST SCREEN FIT
Tray Board adapts automatically, but the most comfortable arrangement depends on the picture, screen and orientation.
PHONES
- Portrait normally gives a larger vertical board with the tray below it.
- Landscape places the tray beside the board and may make wide or square pictures easier to view.
- Try both orientations and use the one that gives the most useful balance between board size and tray access.
TABLETS
- Both portrait and landscape can provide a practical layout.
- Portrait is often comfortable for tall pictures, while landscape can provide a larger side-by-side arrangement for square or wide pictures.
LAPTOPS AND DESKTOP SCREENS
- Rotation is not normally relevant.
- Full Screen removes surrounding browser content and gives the board-and-tray assembly more of the available display.
IMAGE SHAPE
- Tall or postbox pictures often suit portrait screens.
- Wide or letterbox pictures often suit landscape screens.
- Square pictures generally work well in either orientation.
The tray remains scrollable whenever all loose pieces cannot be displayed simultaneously.
STATS IN FULL SCREEN
When Stats are enabled, Tray Board displays:
- current time;
- best time;
- pieces placed;
- total pieces; and
- percentage completed.
The stats panel automatically uses a compact position appropriate to the available space.
Depending on the screen and orientation, it may appear:
- below the board-and-tray layout;
- in a compact space beside it; or
- as a small floating panel near the bottom of the display.
The stats panel does not alter puzzle state or prevent pieces from being placed.
